Nikki Parmenter Workshop January 9th 2021

I spent a really enjoyable morning today following a workshop delivered by Nikki Parmenter. It has rekindled my love of free machine embroidery. I must say that it has been difficult to motivate myself over recent weeks but Nikki changed that for me today. I feel, and this may sound stupid, energised. I love the way that brightly coloured snippets can turn into a super background on which to sew. I look forward to part 2 of the workshop at next month’s meeting. Thanks Nikki

Regional news

‘There is no longer a North East Regional Committee of the Embroiderers’ Guild. The website has been taken down. A new group has been formed ‘The Association of Northern Stitch Groups’. A physical meeting is planned in October 2021. The main function at present is communication for help and support between the groups. Communication is going to be by email.’ JG

Video Clip – Sketch to stitch and Inktense water colours

Just trying something out. I hope that it works. Julia shows one of her favourite techniques. It is only 9 minutes long. Youtube is a great source of information on hundreds of topics. You will get some adverts popping up and all you need to do is click on the cross to close them (usually top right of the advert). This is irritating but you have to buy into the programme in order to get rid of them. Follow the link to her blog and find lots of inspiration and free templates https://www.stitchesbyjulia.com/blog-stitchesbyjulia/watercolor-on-fabric

Diversity

I just want to say that as a member of The Embroiderers’ Guild I love our monthly meetings. Please don’t be put off by our title. We aren’t all experts at everything and embroidery doesn’t mean old or traditional stitch, unless you want it to. We generally use a mixed media approach to our work. We have a very friendly group of ladies and we try to pass on techniques and our knowledge to others through our Saturday morning sessions.
